On Being Our Own Shepherd
It takes courage to be a shepherd. Standing alone in the field of dreams, ambitions, desires, and visions takes courage. The elements of the natural world dictate the outcome. Shepherds have no control over the wind, the rain coming in horizontally, or the terrain.
A shepherd relies on his knowledge and connection to the sheep and the land, and in some cases, an energy. That is it.
In this journal I am exchanging sheep for creative work, dreams, and ideas.
I asked myself this question a while back, “why are you relying on other people to help you shepherd your dream”? I thought about this for a while. What I have realized is that I have put a certain amount of reliance(more than I care to admit) on social media, other people’s good hearted intentions, reciprocity, and “likes”. Now, this is not bad, it just isn’t the way to do it if you want to fully embrace your dream in my opinion.
My mentor always used to say to keep an idea close, only tell three people. Why only three? Well, it creates a triangle. Energy can bounce easier of three sides. I never forgot that. My husband is the first person to always hear a dream, me, and maybe a friend.
Now I keep everything close, I let my inner world take over the shepherding when I am sleeping.
So, here is my thought process to myself, feel free to use it if you feel similar.
______
I must be the shepherd of our own dreams. I must learn the terrain. And trust. Know the air, the direction of the wind, the inner workings of the landscape. All of it. Trust in the process, not the outcome.
If I truly want to embrace my life and create an extraordinary world, I have to generate my own support. No doubt do I need to rely on healthy support from others, but they cannot be a sole reliance.
For me, my biggest trust is in something way bigger than me. It is in universal system known as Creator, God, Krishna, whoever you lean on. Our dreams are simply downloads from these energies and it is our job to protect that.
++If I could offer you one tip and it could be the biggest lesson I have ever learned - it is to fill the mind with truth, goodness, and surround your dreams with lush nutrients, whatever that might look like to you.
Here is to shepherding our own dreams and visions. If they have come to us, they are worth taking very good care of.
The antique French plasters and my handmade bas relief pieces that you see above are a part of the July Portfolio which will be available on July 24th on my website at 9 am PT.
There will be a limited amount this time as I am preparing for my first big show, JITT (Junk in The Trunk) which is September 18-20 right here in my town. If you are local I would love to see you there and meet you in “real life”.
See you back here soon. In the meantime, shepherd those dreams wisely and in the direction that brings you the most peace.
