Roses of France

They truly are abundant. They are borderline surreal. Their scent is intoxicating to say the least.

How on earth do these magnificent botanical creatures continue to flourish year after year?

Every time I travel to France in April I am always amazed at the abundance of roses. The apricot colored roses are gorgeous clusters of sheer beauty. The fucsia rose rests nicely beside the door to the barn. I pass it every day when I am there and it brings me so much peace.

Why is it that flowers have the power to transport us in stillness? I think it is because they require a pause. I cannot take in the full beauty if I am racing by. To stop, admire, and appreciate the beauty of any flower is such a gift.

The practice of pausing is a breath of fresh air. Simply being aware is all it takes. We don’t need to be uber mindful to do this, we simply need to adjust the way we view nature. To fully embrace it, and allow it to soothe our inner interior we need to recognize it. Have you ever walked by a plant or flower that just stopped you in your tracks? Well, its beauty is there to make you pause, to calm the mind for a nano second. What happens in that second is remarkable, there are no thoughts. Just love and connection.

I wish you all a beautiful day and many moments of calm throughout your day.
