Is this it?
I sit here on a extremely hot day - I even feel bad for the asphalt that is has to be so hot. August is a really hard month in the desert. The rain has stopped and so has the ability to breathe freely.
Literally, I feel out of breath due to the heat and with life in general. I repeat the same question over and over again as I brush my hair and my teeth each morning, Is this it? I wake up at night thinking hopefully tomorrow Instagram will make me seen. It is kind of sad. Actually, it is really sad.
Doing all Creating, Caring, Curating, Collecting, Composing, and then a big fat DEAD END when “social media” takes the value out of it all? Hear me out,I have met a lot of you through IG and while I am beyond happy about that I just cannot continue the way I am going. The heart should not hurt this much through a silly app that is designed to make us ALL feel less than.
I wish someone would make it all make sense. These days to get shown you have to play the game by their rules. What a shame we have evolved this way. What is even more of a shame is that I have chosen to participate in it. I have allowed people in the community to flat out copy my work with zero acknowledgement. Bitter people have caused me a lot of pain by making up lies about me and sharing them with people they know I admire.
So, I ask, is this really it? I sure hope not.
It simply cannot be. Working so hard to produce art whether it be photography, still life, or my plaster pieces and getting so little in return (from social media) for my effort is pushing me away from sharing with those who only take. It has been this way for a very long time. I suppose I was waiting for the boiling pot to be full and today, I made the decision to leave Instagram. I will no longer be posting or communicating via the app from November 1st onwards. I will be giving everyone a chance to connect with me before I go and I can promise you a new world will be open to you - and the best part is you won’t be a test subject.
I am not sure if it will be substack yet or YouTube but it will be one or the other. And it will be valuable.
Sharing what is valuable to me is the most important element of my life and that cannot be seen on the “gram”.
I will continue to share here, my newsletter and my next platform and will be sure to keep you posted!
As for my customers, you know where to find me and I hope you know I will nurture you like no tomorrow as I always have. I will continue to have portfolio releases monthly. I am growing my local business quite quickly and private commision work which is very exciting.
Here are a few captures from my Sunday Stories of the Studio.
All my best to you. I am glad you are here.
If you missed the memo my Portfolio No. 02 will be available Friday August 28th, at 9 am on the Atelier page. Please make sure you are signed up for the newsletter so that you don’t miss anything.
With love and warmth,
