Antique French Talking Plate — Square Montholon, Paris

$77.00

A 19th-century French assiette parlante, or “talking plate,” produced by Vieillard & Cie in Bordeaux.

The center features a finely detailed black transferware view of Square Montholon in Paris, marked Vue du square Montholon and numbered 9. Its quiet garden scene is surrounded by a beautifully molded cream border with raised floral and scrollwork details.

This is a wonderful piece of early French transferware—equally beautiful displayed on a wall, tucked into a plate rack or layered into a collection of antique ceramics.

The reverse bears the original Vieillard & Cie Bordeaux maker’s mark. As an authentic antique, it carries natural surface marks, discoloration and signs of age. These details are part of its history and character. Intended for decorative use.

The Vieillard factory operated in Bordeaux from 1845 until 1895, supporting a 19th-century date for the plate. Musée des Arts Décoratifs et du Design de Bordeaux
