Botanical: Salvia
Pressed: October 14, 2026
Medium: Plaster with Wild Clay Wash
Dimensions: 6” Round
The Practice
A practice of making room for delight.
Hold the piece in both hands. Notice its weight resting against your palms. Take a few easy breaths.
Let your eyes wander among the salvia. Notice the different turns of their petals, the crossing stems, the bloom that draws you first. Notice the veins on the leaves that provide oxygen to the plant. What a wonder it is to be able to feel this.
Bring to mind something you love doing when there is nothing to accomplish. Picking flowers. Humming a song. Wandering somewhere without watching the time.
Ask yourself: “What would I enjoy a little of today?”
Let the answer be small and particular. A few pages of a novel. Your favourite song played aloud. Five minutes outside watching the birds.
Before setting the piece down, quietly say:
“Just because it brings me joy.”
Make a little room for that today.
